How to perform

Wall Handstand Hold movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Face away from a wall, place hands on the floor shoulder-width apart about a hand's length from the wall, and kick up so the heels rest on the wall.

  1. 1

Straighten the arms fully and push the floor away.

  2. 2

Squeeze the legs together and brace the core to limit arching.

  3. 3

Hold the position for the target time.

  4. 4

Come down by stepping or cartwheeling one leg down at a time.

Breathing: Breathe steadily and shallowly while keeping the core braced.

Coaching tips

  • Push tall through the shoulders

  • Ribs in, glutes tight

  • Look at the floor between the hands

Common mistakes

  • Bent elbows

  • Excessive back arch

  • Hands too far from the wall

Safety notes

  • Practise bailing out safely before holding longer sets; clear the area around you.
