Starting position
Sit in the leg press and place the balls of your feet on the bottom edge of the platform, heels off. Press the platform up with straight but unlocked knees and keep the safeties engaged if the machine allows.
Let the platform push your toes back toward you to stretch the calves.
Press through the balls of your feet to push the platform away.
Squeeze at the top of the range.
Return under control and repeat.
Breathing: Exhale as you press, inhale as you return.
Coaching tips
Knees stay still
Big range at the ankle
Controlled tempo
Common mistakes
Bending the knees to move the sled
Feet sliding up the platform
Bouncing reps
Safety notes
Keep your feet secure on the platform edge; if they slip, the sled can drop toward you.
Use the machine safeties whenever possible.
