How to perform

Bottoms-Up Kettlebell Carry movement

Main muscles working (thicker lines)

Starting position

Clean a light kettlebell so it is upside down, bottom facing the ceiling, with the forearm vertical and elbow at shoulder height or lower.

  1. 1

Squeeze the handle hard to keep the bell balanced upright.

  2. 2

Stand tall with the core braced and the free arm relaxed.

  3. 3

Walk forward with slow, smooth steps.

  4. 4

Complete the distance, lower the bell with control, and switch sides.

Breathing: Breathe slowly and steadily while keeping the trunk braced.

Coaching tips

  • Crush the handle

  • Forearm vertical

  • Smooth steps

Common mistakes

  • Loose grip so the bell tips

  • Wrist bending back

  • Leaning away from the bell

  • Using a bell that is too heavy

Safety notes

  • Start very light; a tipping bell can strike the arm or face.

  • Keep the bell to the side of the head rather than directly in front of the face.
